Laucala Island Resort
Laucala Island was a 300 million FJD project, commissioned on one of Fiji’s largest privately owned islands. The brief was to develop one of the most luxurious tourism properties in the world that provided a diverse range of accommodation types within 25 villas. These include beachfront, jungle, plantation, cliff edge and over water villas. The client was after a unique holiday experience and environment that does not exist anywhere else in the world. The aim was to create something that had not been experienced yet in tropical tourism. We adopted particular elements from Fijian vernacular, and introduced exciting new forms derived from traditional architecture.Peter Rankin was involved in the design management of the project. This included coordinating information from the interior designers and landscape architects. He undertook this role for 60% of the facilities. This portfolio work was done by Peter Rankin whilst at Architects Pacific Design Partnership.
