Laucala Island was a 300 million FJD project, commissioned on one of Fiji’s largest privately owned islands. The brief was to develop one of the most luxurious tourism properties in the world that provided a diverse range of accommodation types within 25 villas. These include beachfront, jungle, plantation, cliff edge and over water villas. The client was after a unique holiday experience and environment that does not exist anywhere else in the world. The aim was to create something that had not been experienced yet in tropical tourism. We adopted particular elements from Fijian vernacular, and introduced exciting new formsderived from traditional architecture.Peter Rankin was involved in the design management of the project. This included coordinating information from the interior designers and landscape architects. He undertook this role for 60% of the facilities. This portfolio work was done by Peter Rankin whilst at Architects Pacific Design Partnership.

      Savusavu Market

Under Construction, the Savusavu Market is a dynamic addition to the local landscape, designed as a two-storey building to cater to diverse community needs. The ground level of this bustling structure will host a vibrant array of amenities including market vendors offering fresh produce and local wares, cozy coffee shops inviting patrons to linger, an accessible information booth, a bustling handicraft center showcasing local artistry, and convenient kiosks for quick snacks and essentials. Meanwhile, Level 1 will accommodate SME vendors eager to showcase their products, alongside additional kiosks and conference rooms ideal for community gatherings and business meetings. The design prioritizes accessibility with public conveniences and disability-compliant facilities, ensuring inclusivity for all visitors. An elevator provides seamless access to the first floor, reinforcing the market’s commitment to accessibility and convenience in this evolving community hub.
